The book is filled with a host of memorable characters from Tom the Builder to the haunting Ellen and how there lives intermingle with the cathedral. The villians, Williams Hamleigh and Bishop Waleron Bigod, driven by ambition conspire at every turn t0 sabotage the building of the  cathedral. You will at times wince at how their evil seems to know no bounds. The beautiful Lady Aliena and her trials to overcome the oath she and her brother made to her dying father. The book is hard to put down and haunts you when you do.
